NCAA Division 1

There are currently 205 Division 1 Men's Soccer Programs and 333 Women's programs. In Oregon, University of Portland & Oregon State compete in Division 1 Men's Soccer. Portland, OSU as well as Portland State University & University of Oregon compete at the D1 level on the Women's side. There are athletic scholarships at the D1 level and programs may have more resources than schools at other levels. There are often higher paid assistant coaches, strength coaches and academic advisors at D1 schools.

The most competitive collegiate soccer players in the country can often be found at the D1 level. The available scholarships and prestige of schools at this level often draw the best of the best. As a result the level of play is quite high. Speed & athleticism are often considered essential traits for D1 players.

Division 1 Soccer is demanding in both the fall and spring seasons. Athletes spend considerable time training, traveling to games, lifting weights, watching film and in study hall with their teammates. Athletes are expected to continue rigorous training throughout the summer so as to come into pre-season in excellent condition. D1 competition is demanding and only for athletes who take their soccer development seriously.
