Skye played for FC Portland (1996 & 1999) where she was a State Champion and a Far West Regional runner-up before playing at University of Nevada Las Vegas. Skye currently works at Nike.

Attended camps with Clive Charles and played for FC Portland summer academy as a youth player. Played at University of Portland from 2003-2007. Starting player on the undefeated UP Women’s NCAA Championship team. Started coaching in FC Portland in 2004 in the U10 Program. Has since coached U12, U15, U16 teams within FC Portland. Began coaching at University of Portland in 2007-present. Played semi-pro with the Seattle Sounders after graduating from U of P. Played in the Women’s Professional League for the LA Sol. Caitlin began coaching at F.C. Portland Soccer Academy in 2004. She was the starting goalkeeper at The Catlin Gabel School (1997 – 2000), where her team won the OSAA State Championship all four years. She went on to play Division 1 college soccer at The Colorado College (2000-2004) and was voted the rookie of the week among Independent schools. She was a member of the Portland Metro Soccer Club (1992-1995) and FC Portland (1995-2000) where her teams attended the Regional Tournament on five occasions. She was also a member of the Oregon Olympic Development Program for three years. Caitlin currently holds her national "D" license for coaching. Caitlin also assists with the Academy’s goalkeepers.

Darren began coaching at F.C. Portland Soccer Academy in 1999. Darren has coached at the University of Portland Soccer Camps as well as with the Manchester United Soccer Schools. He has also coached at Three Rivers, Portland City United and Columbia Premier Soccer Clubs since 1990. Darren was also the Head Coach for the Girl’s Varsity at Clackamas High School. Darren holds both an USSF “A” License and an USSF “National Youth License”, as well as Dutch Youth Coaching Course. As a player Darren was a three-year letterman at Evergreen State College (1985-1987).

Colin is new to the FC Portland coaching staff this year. Born and raised in Portland, he attended Grant High School and is an alumnus of FC Portland (1994-1997). He also played for the Oregon ODP team ('93 - '97). He attended Chapman University in southern California where he played all four years and graduated in 2001.

Austra Bloms

Austra is new to the F.C. Portland coaching staff this year. She moved to Oregon from Minnesota in 1989. She played for Oregon ODP, LOSC, and Westside Christian H.S. on the Boy’s team (as her school had no Girls’ Program). Austra received a scholarship to play for Concordia University in Portland. She tore her ACL at the beginning of her sophomore year, red-shirted, and was recruited to play for Florida Atlantic University. On a full ride at FAU she won a spot on the U.S. National Deaf Soccer Team in 1999 led her team to an historic 1st-place international win, and landed a permanent spot on the 2005 Women's Deaf Team Olympics squad. She was selected as co-captain for seven years and led the team to an Olympic Gold Medal at the 2005 Deaf Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. Austra has been coaching soccer since 1994 and is thrilled to be back in Oregon as a part of the Valiants coaching staff at Valley Catholic H.S. and as part of the F.C. Portland soccer community.

U15 Girls
95G Age Group Coordinator:  Garrett Smith
In addition to his membership on one of the first F.C. Portland Academy Men’s Teams, Garrett has been associated with the entire FC community and our keys coaches since day one.  In addition to his role as the U15 Age Group Coordinator for the 2010-2011 season, he is the Head Coach for the University of Portland Women’s Side.

After serving 11 years as an assistant to coach Clive Charles, Garrett was promoted to associate director of soccer at UP in the fall of 2003, and is responsible for handling the daily operations of the women’s soccer team.  Smith, who also assists the men’s team, has lifted the women’s program to new heights during his five years in the main seat. He has reached the postseason all five years, guiding the Pilots to the 2005 national championship, three NCAA quarterfinals appearances and a trip to the third round of the tourney. He has posted a 96-15-7 (.843) career record as head coach.
           
Much of Smith’s coaching success mirrors his career achievements as a player. In college, Smith was one of the highest-scoring defenders in University of Portland soccer history with 25 points (7G, 11A). His collegiate soccer career at UP (1986-89) was highlighted by the 1988 team’s fabulous run to the NCAA Final Four coming within one game of the national championship match. The Pilots won their first 21 games of that season before losing 1-0 to eventual champion Indiana in the semifinals. Smith was an All-WCC first team pick in 1989 and was named team MVP in 1986. He was a three-time All-Northwest Collegiate Soccer Conference selection.

Emily began coaching for FC Portland Soccer Academy in 2005. She attended the University of Portland where she was a four year starter for the Women's Soccer team from 2004-2007. During her college career she started 89 games and won a NCAA Division I National Championship in 2005. Before attending the University of Portland Emily played club soccer for FC Portland from 1996-2004 and high school for Jesuit from 2000-2003 in which time she won 2 high school and 1 club State Championship. Emily currently holds a USSF 'D' license.

Rob is the Assistant Coach for University of Portland Men and Women’s Teams and the Head Coach of the US Development Academy Teams at F.C. Portland. Rob previously coached Sunset High School Boys Varsity for 12 years. As a player Rob was a four-year letterman at the University of Portland (1987-1990) under Clive Charles, finishing his career with 29 goals and 14 assists. Rob was a member of the Canadian National Team 1989, and played 10 years of professional indoor soccer with the Portland Pride.

Paul Gouldsbrough – Age Group Coordinator

Paul has been with FC Portland since 1992 and has coached almost every age group within the club. He holds a US Soccer “A” License and the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. His playing career began in England where he played at the semi-professional level with Darwen FC in the NW Counties league. He moved to the US in 1986 and played at Warner Pacific College from 1988-1992, earning NSCAA All- American status. During his college spell he played with the Portland Timbers in 1988. His coaching resume includes a five year spell at the University of Portland under Clive Charles as an assistant. He was also the head coach of his alma mater for the 1992 season. Paul also served as F.C. Portland’s General Manager from 1999-2004. He returned to the club after establishing a successful real estate business to coach for our Junior Academy program and is now the head coach for our U10 Boys program.

Brayton Knapp – Age Group Coordinator
The 2010-2011 season will begin Brayton's third year with FC Portland Academy. Brayton played his club soccer with Crossfire Premier in Seattle where he helped lead his team to the 2004 Washington State title; In 2002, he also lead his team to Super Y League Nationals. He continued his playing career at the University of Portland ('05-'08), helping his team to the NCAA playoffs in 2007. He played in all 75 games, of which he started 58, during his college career.

2010/2011 marks Gavin’s 2nd season at F.C. Portland Academy. Gavin played for Sereno Soccer Club in Arizona from 1997-2004. Gavin played college soccer at the University of Portland from 2004-2007. While playing for the Pilots, Gavin was named West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year and Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the Nike Portland Invitational in 2004, and made significant contributions to the Pilots on-field successes, starting over 50 games and scoring five goals.

He has recently moved to the Portland area and is working as a Film and Video Production Assistant.

Brandon was the former co-director of the Jr. Academy Development Program, prior to taking a position at the University of Portland as an Assistant Coach. Brandon was also the coach of the State Champion Lincoln Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team in 2007. As a player Brandon was a four-year letterman at the University of Portland (1998-2001) under Clive Charles, and captained his team to two NCAA Playoffs (2000 and 2001). Brandon was a member of the La Jolla Nomads 1995-1999, winner of 3 National Championships (’96, ’97, ’99).

Popo began coaching at F.C. Portland Soccer Academy in 2004. Before coming to F.C. Portland, Popo coached for Bridlemile (2001 – 2003). As a player, he was also part of the U-17 Mexican National Team. Popo went on to play professionally in Mexico for 6 years for three different teams. He then made the move to the United States where he played for the Portland Pride, Seattle Sounders, and Salem Surge.

Brandon McNeil – Age Group Coordinator

Brandon began coaching at F.C. Portland in 2003, and he will be the U-16 boys Age Group coordinator.  He also coaches the U-13 Boys Team.

Brandon is a former defender for the Pilots, joining the University of Portland soccer coaching staff in July of 2008. He assists in all phases of the men’s and women’s soccer programs, while traveling with the men. McNeil came to UP after one season as head coach of the girls soccer team at Lincoln High School in downtown Portland.

In his one season at the helm of the Cardinals, McNeil led the team to the Oregon 6A State Championship and was named the state coach of the year. Lincoln finished the 2007 season with a perfect 18-0 record to claim the school’s first state title in girls soccer. Previously, McNeil was an assistant coach for the Sunset H.S. (Portland, Ore.) boys soccer team for three years (2004-06).

McNeil (1998-2001) was a four-year starter for the Pilots and earned All-West Coast Conference honors as a senior. Originally from San Diego, Calif., McNeil scored two goals and handed out 17 assists during his career on The Bluff. He helped the Pilots reach the NCAA postseason twice, advancing to the third round in 2001.

Bill began coaching at F.C. Portland Soccer Academy in 1986. Bill is the Director of Soccer at the University of Portland (2003 – Present) after serving 17 years as an Asst. for both the Men and Women’s Teams. As a professional player Bill played eight seasons for Cardiff City in England, before moving to the states in 1978. Signed and played three years with the NASL’s Washington Diplomats. His seven-year NASL experience also took him the Dallas Tornado (1981), Portland Timbers (1982) and San Jose Earthquakes (1983-84). His final two pro campaigns were in the Major Indoor Soccer League with the Minnesota Strikers (1985) and the Wichita Wings (1986).

CLUB FOUNDER:
Clive Charles
Born in 1951, Clive Charles grew up playing street soccer before joining West Ham United youth teams at the age of 12. When he turned 15, Clive signed with the English First Division club West Ham United as an apprentice, following in the footsteps of his older brother John. Clive turned professional and joined the first team in 1970. The club loaned him briefly (1971-1972) to the Montreal oin Canada - part of the North American Soccer League (NASL). In 1972, the defender made the first of his 14 League and 1 Cup appearances for “The Hammers”.
