Rob began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 1989.   He is also the Assistant Coach for University of Portland Men and Women’s teams.  Rob previously coached Sunset High School Boys Varsity for 12 years.  As a player Rob was a four-year letterman at the University of Portland (1987-1990) under Clive Charles, finishing his career with 29 goals and 14 assists. Rob was a member of the Canadian National Team 1989, and played 10 years of professional indoor soccer with the Portland Pride.

Lonnie began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 2002 and currently coaching the U13 Boys’ Blaze Team.  Previously, Lonnie coached for Vista Soccer Club Inc. in Portland.  Additionally, Lonnie is the Head Soccer Coach for Catlin Gabel 8th Grade Boys.  As a youth, Lonnie played at Portsmouth Football Club (1973-1974) in Portsmouth, England.

Eric began coaching with FC Portland in 2007.  Eric is a lifelong player, currently holds a national "D" license and has coached U8-U11 boys and girls for seven years.  He is a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance and is a certified Double-Goal Coach.  Eric is also the Head Coach of the Forest Heights Soccer Club.

Mike was a member of the original FC Portland Challenge Team. Also, Mike was a member of the Portland Timbers (1989-1990). Currently holds a USSF “B” license. 

Brian Gant – U17 Girls Sapphire / U13 Girls Marine

Brian began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 1990.  Since 1983 Brian coached the Girls Varsity Soccer team at Catlin Gabel, where he also teaches. As a player, Brian was a member of the Vancouver Whitecaps (1974 – 1976) and the Portland Timbers (1977 – 1982). He was also a member of the Canadian National Team (1972 – 1982).

Bill began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 1986.  Bill is the Director of Soccer at the University of Portland (2003 – Present) after serving 17 years as an Asst. for both the Men and Women’s Teams.  As a professional player Bill played eight seasons for Cardiff City in England, before moving to the states in 1978. Signed and played three years with the NASL’s Washington Diplomats. His seven-year NASL experience also took him the Dallas Tornado (1981), Portland Timbers (1982) and San Jose Earthquakes (1983-84). His final two pro campaigns were in the Major Indoor Soccer League with the Minnesota Strikers (1985) and the Wichita Wings (1986).

James began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 2000.  He currently holds a “C” license and has coached youth teams for over 10 years.  He a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance and has completed Double Goal Coach requirements.  James was a collegiate athlete at University of Northern Colorado and played over 10 years in Portland area adult soccer leagues.  He is a practicing Portland attorney. 

Joey Leonetti – U11 Boys Red

Joey returns to FC Portland Academy in 2007 after stints as both an original youth player (86-88) and a Coach (94-95).  He is coaching the U11 Boys’ Team this season.  Joey has also coached at Linfield College (Asst. 94, 95), West Linn High School (98-07, Girls League Champions 02, 05, COY 02, 05), and Gladstone High School (93); as well as Oregon City, Willamette United, and Lake Oswego Soccer Clubs (98-07).   Joey was selected for the United States National Team in 92 & 96 during his seven year professional career, which included playing with the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks, Portland Pride, Seattle Sounders (A-League Champion 96, Play-Off MVP), and the Portland Pythons. Joey graduated from the University of Portland with a B.S. in Biology, and while at U.P. earned All-American (1989), All-Region (89-91), and All-Conference (89-91) honors. He was selected to the U.S. U-23 National Team in 1990 and was a Hermann Trophy Finalist in 1991. Joey was honored to be inducted into University of Portland’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.

Darren began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 1999.  Darren has coached at the University of Portland Soccer Camps as well as with the Manchester United Soccer Schools.  He has also coached at Three Rivers, Portland City United and Columbia Premier Soccer Clubs since 1990. Darren was also the Head Coach for the Girl’s Varsity at Clackamas High School. USSF “A” License. USSF “National Youth License”. Dutch Youth Coaching Course. As a player Darren was a thee-year letterman at Evergreen State College (1985-1987).

Jeff began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 2003.  Jeff was the Boys’ Varsity Head Coach for Sunset High School from 2004-2006.  As a player Jeff was a four-year letterman at Gonzaga University (1995-1998).  Jeff also played for FC Portland (1992-1994), and was part of the National Championship winning team of 1994.

Brandon began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 2003.  Brandon co-directs the Jr. Academy Development Program out of the FC Office.  Additionally, Brandon is the Head Girls’ Varsity Coach for Lincoln High School.  As a player Brandon was a four-year letterman at the University of Portland (1998-2001) under Clive Charles, and Captained his team to two NCAA Playoffs (2000 and 2001).  Brandon was a member of the La Jolla Nomads 1995-1999, winner of 3 National Championships (’96, ’97, ’99).

Barton began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 2005.  Previously Barton was the Head Boys Varsity Coach at Sandy High School (2000) and Mt. View High School (2002).  He was also an Assistant Coach for the Women’s team at Portland State University (2001-2002). As a player Barton played at Lambuth University (1993-1995) Loyola Marymount University (1995-1997) and professionally in Germany (1998-1999).  Barton was also a member of the FC Portland Academy (19??-19??).

Popo began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 2004.  Before coming to FC Portland, Popo coached for Bridlemile (2001 – 2003).  As a player, he was also part of the U-17 Mexican National Team.  Popo went on to play professionally in Mexico for 6 years for three different teams.  He then made the move to the United States where he played for the Portland Pride, Seattle Sounders, and Salem Surge.

Glen began coaching at FC Portland Academy in the fall of 2000. Glen has coached at the University of Portland Soccer camps sine 1996 and was the Franklin High School Varsity Women's Soccer Head Coach from 2003-2006. Prior to being Franklin's Varsity coach he was the JV coach (2000-2003) and assisted at Clackamas HS Varsity Girls soccer team in 1999 with Darren Lilla. Glen was also the JV coach at Jesuit High School in 1995. Glen holds an English FA Preliminary Coaching License as well as his USSF 'D' License and KNVB License. Glen was a 4-year letterman at Concordia University, Portland, OR (1996 - 2000) graduating with a BA in Health and Physical Education in 2000. Glen taught HS for six years but is now a Technical Analyst & Lighting Specialist with Ecos.

Caitlin began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 2004.  As a player Caitlin was a four-year letterman at Catlin Gable (1997 – 2000), where her team won the OSAA State Championship all four years.  She went on to play college soccer at The Colorado College (2000-2004).  She was a member of the Portland Metro Soccer Club (1992-1995) and FC Portland (1995-2000).

Lauren Hanson – U16 Girls Purple

Lauren began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 2004.  Lauren has been an Assistant Coach for the University of Portland Women’s Soccer Team since 2004.  As a player, Lauren was a four-year letterman at the University of Portland (1999-2002) under Clive Charles - winning a NCAA National Championship 2002.  She was selected 9th overall in the WUSA Draft for the New York Power.

Karen began coaching in FC Portland Senior Academy in 1999.  She coached High School Varsity Soccer at Catlin Gabel with FC coach, Brian Gant from 1994-2003.  Karen has coached youth soccer for over 15 years in California, Georgia, and Oregon.  As a player, Karen was a four-year starter at Santa Clara University.  At the U19 level, Karen competed at the National Championships with the Union Bay Flyers from Seattle, Washington.

Maren Harper – Jr. Academy Program / U17 Girls Crimson

Maren began coaching with the FC Portland Jr. Academy Program in 2006.  Originally from Sacramento, CA, Maren played collegiate soccer at the University of Utah (1999-2002).  As four year starting defender, Maren garnered both academic and athletic honors including Verizon Academic All-American first team, NSCAA All-West Region Team, and University of Utah Valedictorian.  In 2002, under coach Rich Manning, Maren captained the Utes and their nationally ranked defense to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. After spending some time abroad coaching for a nonprofit sport-for-development organization in Uganda, Maren completed her MPA at New York University and then headed to the northwest.
