On Saturday and Sunday, our teams will face two of the strongest clubs in Colorado: Real Colorado and the Colorado Rush. We encourage all of our F.C. players, families, and coaches to show up in support of the Development Academy Teams! Wear your F.C. Portland team jersey, cheer on your fellow club members, and witness some high caliber soccer!
Game Times: On Saturday (2/9), the U16 boys kick-off at 11:00am, followed by the U18 boys at 1:00pm. And on Sunday (2/10), the U16 boys play at 9:00am, followed by the U18 boys at 11:00am. All the games are played on the Varsity Field at Liberty High School.
Home Series: This is the first of a series of three home games hosted by F.C. Portland for the U.S. Academy League. On February 22nd and 23rd the La Jolla Nomads and Washington Premier academy teams will be coming to Portland from San Diego, Ca. and Tacoma, Wa. respectively. All promise to be intense and well-played matches.
Coaching Staff: The U16 F.C. Portland boys lead by University of Portland Assistant Men's and Women's Coach Rob Baarts. Rob began coaching at F.C. Portland Soccer Academy in 1989. Rob previously coached Sunset High School Boys Varsity for 12 years. As a player Rob was a four-year letterman at the University of Portland (1987-1990) under Clive Charles, finishing his career with 29 goals and 14 assists. Rob was a member of the Canadian National Team 1989, and played 10 years of professional indoor soccer with the Portland Pride.
U.S. Soccer Development Academy: The U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy League was established in a move designed to improve the development environment for players throughout the country. The U.S. Soccer Federation has taken the initiative in formalizing a nationwide development academy that began Columbus Day Weekend, October 6-8, 2007 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The U.S. Soccer Development Academy features 64 elite youth soccer clubs from around the country in its inaugural season. Created to provide players with the best possible opportunity to develop, the U.S. Soccer Development Academy was launched following a comprehensive review of various player-development systems within the United States and around the world. |
