Successful First Round of Tryouts For the 2008/2009 USSF Development Academy

What Type of Player Will Be Selected?
Next Round of Tryouts to be: August 5th & 6th at Liberty High

On the first day of the new competitive year for the USSF Development Academy, each of the F.C. Portland coaches who evaluated over 50 players for 40 spots on the U15/16 and U17/18 teams commented on the strength of the competition.

An evaluation of the inaugural year helped us to realize that this program is not for everyone.

Here are the traits the coaches are seeking in each of the players who will be selected:
• Committed to practicing 3 times each week
• Committed to playing in 29 or 30 highly competitive games
• Willing to compete with best players from around the country
• Willing to be scouted by the US National Team Coaches
• Willing to be scouted by college coaches and the MLS

Second Round of Tryouts for the USSF Program and for the State Cup Teams will be:

U15/16/17/18 Boys - 6:00pm – 7:30pm

Wednesday, August 6

F.C. Portland Prepares for Year Two – USSF Development Academy (7/22)

First round of Tryouts to begin on July 21 and 22
Liberty High School - 6:30 – 8:00pm

“If there was another program in this country that gave players this much quality competition over the past ten years, none of us have seen it!” said Rob Baarts, Head Coach for the Men’s Division at F.C. Portland Academy and Director of the Development Academy Program, and Assistant Coach for the Men’s team at the University of Portland.

“What our players saw day in and day out – the level of competition, the intensity of play and skillfulness of opposing teams – has helped each and every player who committed to this program get better in quantum ways.” Baarts continued.  “For those players who truly want to prepare for their college careers and expand their options on the largest youth soccer stage in this country, this will continue be the program.”
