Each year FC Portland strives to achieve its mission to be one of the best player-development clubs in the nation. Since we are at the mid-point of the 2011-2012 competitive year, we know that now is a crucial time to undertake an evaluation of the various parts of the competitive program and to conduct a “check-up” on the overall health of each age group.
Our overarching goal is to continue strengthening our entire program – and to accomplish that goal this year, we are actively expanding the pool so that we can best gather meaningful insights from coaches, players and parents. The questions we’re posing in the newly designed SURVEY, come from the core of the Positive Coaching Alliance Program, which we feel is a valuable and productive model for us to use to identify areas that need special attention.

The girls capped a great cup run which included two 1-0 victories in both their semi-final (over the Division 1 Champion) and in the Finals.
Keep up the strong work girls!

We are proud of all of our teams on another winning season in the Oregon Premier League.
Congratulations to our Navy U11 Girls and U11, U12 and U13 boys for winning the OPL Premier Divisions. FC Portland is the only club in the entire state to have won more than one title. From their successes on the pitch, all 8 navy teams, boys and girls U11-U14, qualified for the Northwest Champions League in 2012. Again we led the pack by qualifying the most teams in the state. FC Portland Academy’s white teams also enjoyed success this season led by the U14 boys who finished 2nd in their division and the U-12 girls who finished 5th in the premier division. Well done to all teams and players! |

A conversation with our Head Coaches.
Since its founding in 1987 by Clive Charles, F.C. Portland Academy has sought to prepare and develop young people for the challenges of life through soccer. It is through the channels of training and playing the Academy feels it can help young people grow individually. Clive was know for his many great philosophies and quotes on the sport and its ability to challenge the individual person to achieve great things on and off the field. The Academy chose to represent one of Clive’s quotes on our training shirts this year. “You have to earn the right to play” will be featured on all training apparel this season.
We sat down with Rob Baarts the director of our boy’s program and Mike dePinna director of our girl’s program to discuss what that philosophy means to the club, its players and families.
If you had to use one word to describe what earning the right to play means, what would it be?
