Welcome
to the NEW FC Portland JR Academy website.

We hope that you will enjoy using this tool to find out more about the training and competitive programs, the excellent coaching staff and the facilities that are used to train over 525 young players who are part of the Academy.

Brandon McNeil:
Brandon began coaching at FC Portland Soccer Academy in 2003 and is currently an Assistant for the U-15 boys Navy team. He is also the U-12 boys Bronze team Head Coach

Additionally, Brandon is the Girls Varsity Head Coach for Lincoln High School (Oregon State Playoff Champions 2007). As a player Brandon was a four-year letterman at the University of Portland (1998-2001) under Clive Charles, and Captained his team to two NCAA Playoffs (2000 and 2001). Brandon was a member of the La Jolla Nomads 1995-1999, winner of 3 National Championships (’96, ’97, ’99).

Maren Harper:
Maren began coaching with the F.C. Portland Jr. Academy Program in the summer of 2006. Originally from Sacramento, CA, Maren played collegiate soccer at the University of Utah (1999-2002). As four year starting defender, Maren garnered both academic and athletic honors including Verizon Academic All-American first team, NSCAA All-West Region Team, and University of Utah Valedictorian. In 2002, under coach Rich Manning, Maren captained the Utes and their nationally ranked defense to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance...

After spending some time abroad coaching for a nonprofit sport-for-development organization in Uganda, Maren completed her MPA at New York University and then headed to the northwest.

Program Description
FC Portland’s Junior Academy Program is a dynamic, year-long opportunity for young soccer players to learn new skills and discover how to progress toward the next level of competition. Junior Academy coaches work closely with our players within a professional training environment to teach the many technical skills that today’s players need to improve as they grow. The program is designed to benefit the young player who has a joy for the game, who has good work habits, and who is motivated to further develop his or her natural talent.

Junior Academy Age Eligibility:

Junior Academy players birthdates must fall on or after August 1, 1997.

Junior Academy Training
Junior Academy consists of bi-weekly training sessions that emphasize the on-going development of field skills, agility and coordination, and creativity in a player-centeredenvironment. Players may enroll inJunior Academy Training on a month-by-month basis.

Winter
• December 2007 - February 2008
• Includes 1 Futsal training session per week.
• Includes participaton in the Jr. Futsal League.

Spring

• March - April 2008

• Includes 1 outdoor training session per week.

• Includes participation in the Jr. Spring League.

Summer
• June - July 2008
• Includes weekly outdoor training sessions.

Fall
• August - November 2008
• Includes 1 outdoor training session per week.
• Includes participation in the Jr. Fall League.

Additional Fees
$70: Gear Kit, Official F.C. Portland gear is available at teh Academy office and must be worn at each training session.

$35: Jr. Academy Membership Fee, one-time fee for new Jr. Academy members.
