5th Annual Clive Charles
Memorial Golf Tournament

Friday, June 10th
LANGDON FARMS GOLF CLUB

Dear F.C. Portland community,

Thank you for helping to make the gathering at Langdon Farms Golf Course on June 10th another great celebration!

One of our truly fun non-soccer events of the year – The Clive Charles Memorial Tournament – was a success on so many fronts and I want to thank everyone who helped to make it such a terrific event.   The weather fully cooperated and most of us were dry from start to finish – due in large part to the Nike golf gear and so I want to give special recognition to our friends and sponsors at Nike Soccer and to our Sustaining Sponsor – the Far Post Soccer Supply Company - for their extremely generous support of this annual celebration and of the scholarship fund.

It is always a treat to meet parents in a new setting, away from the fields, and then to spend time with our board members, our alumni & alumni parents, our sponsors, our returning friends from the previous years and the coaches who were able to participate. That we have a chance to fondly remember and re-create some of the great Clive stories and adventures is simply an extra special and valued bonus.  As his son, Michael, said in the Red Shed during the award ceremonies – Clive would have loved the competition on the course and would have tried his best to buy that one lucky golf ball for the Helicopter Ball Drop...speaking of which -

CONGRATULATIONS to the following winners for the Ball Drop:

$1,500 closest to the pin – The Lovell Family (Girls Side)
$500 2nd closest to the pin -  The Lefler Family (Girls Side)
$500 3rd closest to the pin – The Munger Family (Boys Side)

CONGRATULATIONS to the following golfers for their performance:

LOW GROSS Score:
Sonny Jepson / Scott Erdmann / Dan Harmon / Steve Myers (53)

LOW NET Score:
Mike dePinna / Patrick O’donnell Jr. / Chip Wallace / George Ceballos (54)

Thanks, too, to Nike Soccer & Joe Elsmore for their generosity, to Richard Nightengale and UMBRO Soccer for the donation of the Box at the Timbers Game v. Kansas City (food and drinks, seats for 18 and 2 parking passes); and to Harry Merlo & Lago di Merlo Wine for the Sangiovese that was auctioned during the night!

To every player and parent who sold Helicopter Ball Drop tickets – a special shout out for adding nearly $6,000 to our scholarship fund – because with your efforts, we are a stronger a program.

To Mary Ford, Emily Michaelson, Kathy Bryant, Clarena and Michael Charles, the staff at Langdon Farms, and Jerry Offerdahl (my tournament partners in crime) a hearty “grazi” for handling the details flawlessly.

Finally, to all who joined us – we are grateful for your participation and we appreciate your support of the Academy’s programs on scholarship and coaching development – which benefits each and every player in our club – for all of this, I extend my personal thank you.

Respectfully,

Joe Wedding
