Special Information for New U12 and U13 Girls

FC Portland is excited to announce training news for the new U12 and U13 girls teams that will be formed at tryouts!

On Saturday, May 18th, the first week following tryouts for the 2013-14 season, players selected for those teams will have a great opportunity for the first “friendlies” of the new year against competitive teams from Mountain View Soccer Club, San Jose, CA which are coached by Tiffeny Milbrett.

In addition to being one of the first members of FC Portland Academy, Tiffeny is an alumna of the University of Portland, an Olympic gold medalist and former member of the US Women’s National Team!

Friendlies will take place on the grass fields on the morning of May 18th at Hillsboro High School.

We are looking forward to this matchup of two great clubs and the return of one of Portland’s own!

Elijah Tafui of Boys U13 Selected for id2 Camp

Congratulations to Elijah Tafui, a member of the FC Portland Academy 99 Boys team, who has been selected to participate in US Club Soccer’s player development initiative: id2! Elijah, along with 6 other players from Oregon, was selected from the recent US Club Soccer PDP camp help by the OPL. All 7 players will now participate in an upcoming id2 camp in either San Diego or Charleston with the possibility of being selected for an international tour and/or selection to a US Soccer Youth National Team Pool.

Congratulations Elijah!

FC Portland Teams Represent Well at Players Showcase, Finishing 9-2-1

In the Players Showcase that was just played March 16-18 in Las Vegas, the FCP U15, U16 and U18 girls represented the club very well.

The teams had a combined record of 9 wins 2 losses and 1 tie against National competition. The Players’ Showcase is one of the premier tournaments in the country for Youth Soccer.  It attracts teams from all over the country.

The 94G Navy finished in second place in the top Mirage Division of the U18 girls with a 3-1-0 record. Their only loss a close 1-0 decision to the ECNL team from Eclipse of Illinois.   They defeated Palo Alto and Juventus of Northern Cal, as well as Sparta of Utah

The 96G Navy dominated their opponents in the Plaza division, going 4-0-0 with 10 goals for and 1 against in beating Celtic from Utah, FC Dallas, Albion of Southern Cal, and the San Diego Surf.   The tournament organizers clearly put the US Club National Finalists in the wrong division.   The 96’s played with class and style and did the job against the opponents put before them.

The 97G Navy finished the Suncoast Division with a 2-1-1 record.  They opened with a tie against Sparta from Utah.   A narrow 2-1 loss to Nothern Cal’s Marin FC kept the 97’s out of the playoffs, and they finished the event with a 3-1 win over Conejo Valley of Southern Cal and a 3-0 win over Diablo – also of Southern Cal.

Congrats to the girls and coaches for representing the club well!

THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 2103

LANGDON FARMS - 1:45PM SHOTGUN START

The 2013 event has been moved to Thursday, August 22nd for the weather and to provide time for our new and returning families time to join the event!

At the event, we will be providing special recognition to several friends of the Academy and to several coaches and alumni who have been instrumental to the program over the past ten-years.

By moving the event to a Thursday, families that want to leave Friday for a long weekend can play in the tournament and be free for family travels!

Please mark your calendar for the new date of Thursday, August 22nd for the 2013 Clive Charles Memorial Golf Tournament.

Clive founded F.C. Portland Academy in 1987 with the key philosophy that: “Through the game of soccer there is an opportunity to prepare and develop young people for the challenges of life.”
