FC Portland Soccer Academy

Club Mission

FC Portland's mission is to prepare and develop young athletes for the challenges of life through the game of soccer. We cultivate an environment of professional coaching and leadership that focuses on long-term player development which leads to competitive success at the highest level and builds the foundation for future achievements in life.

Club Philosophy

Clive Charles founded F.C. Portland Academy in 1987 with the key philosophy that: “Through the game of soccer there is an opportunity to prepare and develop young people for the challenges of life.” The Academy continues striving to uphold Clive’s vision for soccer and player development both on and off the field.

Clive’s philosophy, style of play, and legacy is still alive at F.C. Portland Academy. It is the mission of our coaches to continue the storied history of FC Portland and to build children into young men and women on and off the pitch. The primary goal for our coaches will always be help our players reach their objectives; be it playing varsity high school, playing in college, or playing professionally.

Club Style of Play

FC Portland Academy teams have a rich history of a possession with a purpose style of play. Since our club was founded, Clive’s vision of a style of play was innovative. Our teams have always been encouraged to play out of the back and out of tight spaces. We want our teams to be organized, fit, and aware.

Our players must always look to get numbers around the ball to create a numerical advantage while attacking and defending as a unit. With the evolution of soccer in the country, our club is proud to have a style of play that is now being encouraged by US Soccer to all clubs.
