Foundation Academy

2026-2027

Foundation Academy (U9-U10 | Boys & Girls)

Overview

The Foundation Academy is the entry point into the FC Portland competitive pathway, designed for young players who are ready to build a strong foundation in the game.

At this critical stage of development, the focus is on mastering fundamental skills, developing confidence on the ball, and fostering a love for soccer in a positive and engaging environment. Players are introduced to more a structured training model while continuing to learn through creativity, repetition, and game play.

As part of the early stages of the club pathway, the Foundation Academy prepares players for future opportunities within the Pre-ECNL and Competitive Academy programs, while keeping development and enjoyment at the center of the experience.

Player Pathway & Team Structure

Players participate in annual tryouts and, if selected, are placed into the Foundation Academy pools for their age group. Training sessions are led by experienced coaches and follow the club's development methodology, ensuring consistency in teaching and progression across all teams. The program emphasizes individual development within a team environment, helping players build confidence and a strong understanding of the game.

Competition & Development

Foundation Academy teams compete in the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) Development League, providing a structure and age-appropriate introduction to competitive play.

League play focuses on player development and learning, with an emphasis on applying skills in game situations rather than results. The environment is designed to be positive, supportive, and challenging, helping players grow their confidence and enjoyment of the game.

Optional winter futsal and additional playing opportunities may be offered to provide a winter game experience and further support technical development.
