Competitive Academy

2026-2027 Season

Competitive Academy Program (U11-U19 | Boys & Girls)

Overview

The Competitive Academy Program is designed for players who are committed to soccer and want to continue developing in a structured, competitive environment within the FC Portland pathway.

This program provides an important platform within our club structure, supporting players across all ages and ability levels while maintaining a direct connection to our Pre-ECNL, ECNL Regional League, and ECNL Pathways. Players are placed into the Competitive Pool following tryouts, with opportunities for movement into higher-level training environments based on development, performance, and team needs.

Each age group is overseen by an Age Group Coordinator, who manages the entire player pool and ensures alignment between Competitive Academy teams and the top-tier training environment within the club.

The Competitive Academy Program is built for long-term development, player enjoyment, and continued growth in the game, while providing a strong foundation for players who may also participate in other sports or have varied athletic commitments.

Player Pathway & Team Structure

Players participate in annual tryouts and, if selected, are placed into the Competitive Academy Pool for their age group.

Throughout the season, players remain connected to the full age group structure, with potential opportunities to train or move into Pre-ECNL, ECNL RL, or ECNL environments on a temporary or permanent basis based on performance, development, and team needs.

All movement decisions are supported by the Age Group Coordinator and coaching staff to ensure clear communication and alignment across the entire pathway.

Competition & Development

Competitive Academy teams participate in local Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) leagues providing consistent match play in a familiar and accessible environment.

Teams will also participate in cup competitions and selected local tournaments throughout the year, offering additional competitive opportunities beyond league play.

For older age groups (U15-U19), additional opportunities may include:

  • College showcase event
  • SportsRecruit access and college advising support
  • Regional and out-of-state tournaments when appropriate

This program is designed to support player development across all levels, with an emphasis on technical growth, game understanding, and a positive competitive experience.
