Pre-ECNL Program

2026-2027 Season

Pre-ECNL Program (U11-U12 | Boys & Girls)

Overview

The Pre-ECNL Program is designed for highly committed players who are motivated to develop and aspire to compete at the highest levels of club soccer. As the foundation of the ECNL pathway at FC Portland, the program prepares players for future ECNL opportunities through a structure and competitive training environment.

Each age group features two Pre-ECNL teams, creating a dynamic setting that supports both individual development and competitive growth. The program emphasizes technical skill development, game understanding, and the habits needed for long-term success within the club's pathway.

Player Pathway & Team Structure

Players participate in annual tryouts and, if selected, are placed into the Pre-ECNL pool for their age group. Throughout the summer, the coaching staff evaluate players and determine team placement, allowing time for development and players to earn their position on either team.

Movement within the Pre-ECNL pool may be fluid throughout the season, with both teams in each age group operating as a unified training and development environment under a shared club methodology.

Competition & Development

Pre-ECNL teams compete in the Pre-ECNL Far West Conference, facing clubs from Oregon, Southwest Washington, and Idaho (boys only). League play is primarily local, helping to keep travel manageable for families while still providing a high level of competition.

Boys teams participates in one travel weekend to Boise during either the fall or spring season, offering a valuable out-of-state competitive experience. Teams may also have the opportunity to attend the Pre-ECNL NorCal Cup in Davis, CA in March, adding an exciting event within the broader ECNL Pathway.

The overall competition experience is designed to challenge players, foster long-term development, and prepare them for progression within the club.
